As the 2024 Olympics unfolded on my TV, I knew I’d be spending countless hours captivated by the incredible stories of athletes from around the world. But I wanted to make sure that time was spent wisely, so I set a personal goal inspired by the amazing Tom Daley, the British diver and knitter.
I decided to knit a scarf that would forever remind me of these Games. The catch? I hadn’t knitted since second grade when my project was a sweatband! Armed with YouTube tutorials, a trip to the craft store and a lot of patience, I embarked on my knitting journey.
Was it easy? No. Were there flaws? Absolutely. Did I lose patience? More than once. But I laughed at my mistakes and found immense joy in the process. After I finished I realized the greatest gift wasn’t the scarf itself, but the fulfillment of meeting a personal goal.
Goals are so crucial in our lives yet many of us focus only on professional ones, neglecting the personal. As Jon Acuff says “I feel like a goal is the best non-habit producing, non-addictive form of happiness.”
Goals give us long-term vision and short-term motivation. So I’ll ask you – are you actively setting new personal goals? Are you writing them down? Are you putting in the time and effort to achieve them? Here’s your reminder to SET A PERSONAL GOAL TODAY. Trust me, the journey is worth it !
